Pepper Greets Customers at AB Vassilopoulos Supermarket

The pandemic has shaped our lives and the way we shop. Supermarkets have been first to find new ways to ensure the safety of customers to ease them during their shopping at their stores. All this while evolving the customer experience. Greece's biggest supermarket chain, AB Vassilopous, teamed up with one of our official partners, Mobile Technologies, to bring Pepper to the storefront!

Project Conception

With 80 years of operation in the Greek market, over 500 locations across Greece, and being an established household name, AB Vasilopoulos continually seeks to evolve and improve its customer service. Offering new loyalty programs, new products, and services like a Juice Bar and a fromagerie, among many other things. However, in order to make the service more personalized and take into consideration the global pandemic, AB Vassilopoulos sought out Mobile Technologies, official SoftBank Robotics Partner to help them deploy Pepper robots at their AB Hellenic and AB Macedonia stores to meet the challenges.

Solution

Initially, at both stores, Pepper offered a phygital experience for the customers, by promoting offers and motivating visitors to sign up for the company’s newsletter on the spot. During the Covid-19 outbreak, Pepper also helped spread awareness and educate consumers on how to practice safe shopping. The overall contribution of Pepper was not limited to creating a futuristic, yet friendly customer experience for AB Vassilopoulos; the workload of front desk employees was also reduced, as they were released from trivial tasks, like informing customers on current offers.

Results

This leads to consumers feeling an overall positive experience and are more likely to share their customer experience with other people.
