SoftBank Robotics sends its champions to the conquest of the RoboCup 2017

10 years of participation for NAO and Pepper selected for the 1st year

Paris, Tuesday, July 25th 2017 – SoftBank Robotics announces its participation to the RoboCup (world robotics championship) which will take place this year from the 27th to the 30th of July in Nagoya, Japan.

For the 10th consecutive year, NAO will be the robot selected for the "Standard Platform" soccer league, while Pepper will participate for the first time in the "RoboCup@home" league. University and College teams from all over the world will join together there to see if they have what it takes to be crowned RoboCup champion.

NAO has become the star of the "RoboCupSoccer" where robots are expected to operate fully autonomously with no external control. Participants from all over the world come together to show their programming skills and play soccer against each other’s robot teams. By using soccer as the event subject, many people who do not know much about robotics are also interested in the RoboCup. The overall goal of this event is to build a soccer playing robot team that could compete against the human world soccer champions in 2050!

Pepper will show all his capabilities in the field of home assistance in the Robocup@Home where various technological skills will be demonstrated: navigation, doors opening, carrying objects, speech and facial recognition...

SoftBank Robotics also invites visitors to discover and interact with Pepper and NAO on its dedicated booth.
