RX Robots

In 2009, the Rx Robots® research team puts at the disposal of the Telus World of Science a robotic arm and realizes that many children are trying to interact with it. The idea of using this special connection in a medical environment emerges and the company creates MEDI, an application running on the humanoid robot NAO, helping hospitalized kids to manage pain and anxiety due to medical procedures.

MEDi® is an application running on NAO robots that helps hospitalized children manage pain during medical and dental procedures. It teaches them how to breathe and uses cognitive-behavioral techniques in order to distract them from pain and potential stress linked to the procedure.

Children may be surprised at first by the robot, but quickly consider it as a friend with whom they can talk and play games during their visit in the hospital.
