AKQA Denmark has created a piece of IoT in a store installation that raises the shopping experience for the customer. The customer's interaction is literally at eye level with the robot, and the robot attracts more customers to the shop, welcome them in a new way, inform them about the brand and the store, promote new products and offer the service of being their personal shopper: AKQA Denmark uses the robot Pepper in a retail environment, like ECCO stores, to create a personal shopper that can give advice on shoes, clothes and accessories. Based on the customers interaction with Pepper, the robot will recommend products suitable for the customer, based on gender, age, clothing color and style. Pepper can be customized to suit all retail environments.

Based on the customers interaction with Pepper, the robot will recommend products suitable for the customer, based on gender, age, clothing color and style.

  • AKQA Denmark can customize the robot “Pepper” for all business environments, raising the bar for customer experience.
  • They can customize “Pepper” to promote new products, to welcome guests, inform guests about your brand or store, give instructions or provide other valuable information such as inventories.
  • AKQA see the robot as part of the omnichannel experience of a brand, and the interaction with the robot should leave the customer with the same overall feeling and brand experience as other online and offline touch points. So, when customizing for business purposes, environments and tasks, we create a persona that is not primarily the experience of Pepper, the robot but rather Pepper, the brand representative. After all, even if the robot tends to steal the show, it’s also a touch point for the brand, and it should never be a stand-alone experience. A great deal of effort therefore goes into understanding the brand experience and translating it into dialogue, gestures and an overall attitude or mood.

Technology & Expertise

Chatbot - The application is used for assisting customers and let them choose the right products in a shop. Based on dialogue, age and gender guess, the application is able to suggest the right products for the customer.

IT system integration - The application communicates with a backend system which stores the pictures taken and provides a gateway to the cognitive online services.

Cognitive computing - The application takes a picture of the customer and by the use of online cognitive services it is possible to define the age, the gender and the style of the person.

IoT -  The application is integrated with Philips Hue Light System which works with a local wifi network. This custom made solution enables a shelf system with products to light up when Pepper recommends a specific product. Pepper recommends products based on gathered data about age, gender and style.
